Syrian Army Crushes U.S.-Backed Rebel Assault From Jordan.
LONDON — President Bashar Assad has defeated a U.S. effort to use
Jordan as a launching pad for the overthrow of his regime.
Western diplomatic sources said Assad’s military and security forces
crushed a U.S. campaign to send hundreds of trained and equipped Sunni
rebels from Jordan to regain a key city in southern city.
“This was a well-trained and equipped force meant to eventually reach Damascus and overthrow the regime,” a source said. “Instead, the rebels crossed the Jordanian border and within hours were on the run.”
The sources said the FSA force, with fighters from Egypt and Saudi Arabia, consisted of two battalion-size units, or nearly 600 fighters.
The sources said the fighters, trained by the CIA as well as Jordan’s Special Operations Force Command, were equipped with anti-tank, anti-aircraft missiles as well as night-vision systems.
Most of the equipment was said to have come from the former Yugoslavia.
Since late 2012, Jordan has served as the main venue for the U.S.-sponsored
project to train and equip Syrian rebels.
On Aug. 17, the two FSA units crossed the Jordanian border for the
nearby Syrian city of Dera, a distance of fewer than 15 kilometers. But the
sources said the FSA fighters were immediately besieged by Druse and Bedouin
militias and refused help by Al Qaida-aligned units.
“Nobody wanted them, and even those who have been fighting Assad saw
them as a threat,” another source said.
Within hours, Syrian Army units arrived and pursued FSA fighters west
toward the Golan Heights and the frontier with Israel. The sources said
discipline broke down within the FSA units and some of the fighters tried to
attack a United Nations peace-keeping force in the Golan in an attempt to
acquire human shields.
“The CIA plan was simple: To establish an FSA presence in southern Syria
that would serve as a magnet for other opposition forces to march on to
Damascus,” the second source said.
By Aug. 20, the sources said, the FSA force, which contained Western
mercenaries disguised as rebels, was routed, with elements besieged by
Syrian Army units. They said the FSA defeat ended U.S. hopes of using Jordan
for a rapid rebel advance that could decide the Syrian war in 2013.
The sources said the defeat highlighted the increasing isolation of
Washington in directing the rebel campaign in Syria. They said the U.S.
strategy drew from the revolt against Col. Moammar Gadhafi in Libya in
2011, in which NATO allies used Benghazi as a launching pad for attacks.
“The Americans have been pursuing this Benghazi strategy for more than a
year despite the fact that Syria is not Libya, Assad is certainly not
Gadhafi, and that Damascus has powerful allies that are fighting to save
the regime,” the second source said. “But the feeling among the allies is
that America is not listening.”

Congressman Ron Paul's Farewell Speech to Congress.
July 29, 2012
Ron Paul's 'Audit-the-Fed' bill passes the House
(NaturalNews) Ron Paul doesn't have many legislative victories, but when he does, it's a monumental event.
Paul, the Libertarian-leaning Republican lawmaker from Texas with a penchant for upsetting the GOP establishment and a loathing for the status quo, just happens to also be the Federal Reserve's biggest critic.
For years Paul - who has still yet to officially withdraw from his quest for the GOP presidential nomination that is now Mitt Romney's in everything but name - has pushed for more transparency at the Fed. From within the organization and from Congress itself, he's been stymied at every turn.
That all changed earlier this week when - finally - he found satisfaction.
Time for Congress to 'reassert ourselves'
The House on Wednesday voted overwhelmingly - 327-98 - in favor of legislation he offered that would require a full audit of all the central bank's practices. The bill, called the Federal Reserve Transparency Act (H.R. 459) "essentially removes the prohibitions against a full audit," Paul said.
Current rules allow the non-partisan Government Accountability Office to audit most aspects of the Fed's activities. But an examination of the central bank's monetary policy decisions is off limits.
Paul's bill will close that regulatory gap.
"It is up to us to reassert ourselves," Paul said during floor debate earlier this week, referring to lawmakers in general.
"To audit, we should know what kind of transactions there are," he said. "We should know about the deals that they made when they were fixing the price of Libor. These are the kinds of things that have gone on for years that we have no access to."
Libor refers to the London Interbank Offered Rate. Earlier this month the New York Federal Reserve bank said it knew that London banks were under-reporting borrowing costs, which in turn altered the Libor - a tactic the NY Fed believes was done to boost profits.
Some still want secrecy
Opponents of the measure, including Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, testified earlier that giving the government full audit capabilities over the central bank would amount to a "nightmare scenario," because he believes it will lead to political interference.
"It seems to me what we're talking about is taking some fake punches at the Federal Reserve but not doing anything serious," Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, added.
"They will see it as political interference, not with the contracting procedures, not with the budget, not with how many cars they have, but with how they decide on interest rates," Frank said. "And the perception that the Congress is going to politicize the way in which interest rates are set will in itself have a destabilizing effect."
Paul says if its politicization of the Fed that some are worried about, that's already been occurring. He said the Fed, through political and corporate cronyism, has picked industries to support - and to ignore. Some financial institutions have been bailed out by the Fed, which essentially created the bailout money out of thin air, while others have not.
"It's very political when you have a Federal Reserve that can bail out one company and not another company," Paul said. "That's pretty political."
The House passed it - But now what?
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa agreed, noting that Congress - purposefully or by accident - has, through the years, relinquished its oversight role.
"In recent years, the Fed's extraordinary interventions into the economy's fiscal markets have led some to call into question its independence," said Issa, R-Calif. "We do not ask for an audit for that reason, we ask for an audit because the American people ultimately must be able to hold the Fed accountable, and to do so, they must know at least in retrospect what the Fed has done over these many year."
The bill has moved to the Senate where its majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, once favored an audit of the Fed.
Now; however, since it is no longer his idea, he seems to have changed his mind.

More Obama Leaks to Harm Israel: "U.S. Sees Israel as Spy Threat"
Obama's war on America's number one ally in the Middle East gets hotter. This is exactly what I warned of in my book, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration's War on America.
His closest confidantes and mentors are/were vicious Jew-haters. This is not without disastrous consequences. Obama's catastrophic anti-freedom foreign policy was instrumental in the rise of jihadist and Islamic supremacist regimes across the Middle East and North Africa.
Today we learn of another well-placed leak. Like all of Obama's well placed leaks, it is designed to harm Israel and the unique relationship we shared with our freedom-loving ally. The objective of this leak is to tarnish Israel in the eye's of the American people in order to undermine the support Israel has among the majority of the American people. This is necesssary if he is to break the American-Israeli special bond we have enjoyed for sixty plus years.
The idea that Israel is a technological threat because they lead the world in this field, but that "U.S. national secrets are safer from other Middle Eastern governments than from Israel" (because those barbaric cultures cannot invent their way out of a paper bag) is the height of propaganda and smear.
"U.S. officials, a CIA officer in Israel came home to find the food in the refrigerator had been rearranged. In all the cases, the U.S. government believes Israel's security services were responsible."
Yes, the Jews were playing with their food.
It gets worse."U.S. sees Israel as spy threat" USA Today
Despite inarguable ties between the U.S. and its closest ally in the Middle East and despite statements from U.S. politicians trumpeting the friendship, U.S. national security officials consider Israel to be, at times, a frustrating ally and a genuine counterintelligence threat. In addition to what the former U.S. officials described to AP as intrusions in homes in the past decade, Israel has been implicated in U.S. criminal espionage cases and disciplinary proceedings against CIA officers and blamed in the presumed death of an important spy in Syria for the CIA during the administration of President George W. Bush.
The CIA considers Israel its No. 1 counterintelligence threat in the agency's Near East Division, the group that oversees spying across the Middle East, according to current and former officials. Counterintelligence is the art of protecting national secrets from spies. This means the CIA believes that U.S. national secrets are safer from other Middle Eastern governments than from Israel.
Israel employs highly sophisticated, professional spy services that rival American agencies in technical capability and recruiting human sources. Unlike Iran or Syria, for example, Israel as a steadfast U.S. ally enjoys access to the highest levels of the U.S. government in military and intelligence circles.
The officials spoke to AP on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to talk publicly about the sensitive intelligence and diplomatic issues between the two countries.
Assisted by a biased media, Barack Obama has turned his back on more than six decades of American-Israeli friendship.
This video, produced by Accuracy in Media, documents President Obama's often hostile, one-sided pressure on Israel. It also shows how the President will do anything to ensure his own chances for re-election, even if it means allowing Iran to continue developing nuclear weapons while it plays a cynical game of stalling and deception.

Revealed: Hundreds Of Words To Avoid Using Online If You Don't Want The Government Spying On You (And They Include 'Pork', 'Cloud' and 'Mexico')
Revealing: A list of keywords used by government analysts to scour the internet for evidence of threats to the U.S. has been released under the Freedom of Information Act
The Department of Homeland Security has been forced to release a list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor social networking sites and online media for signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.
The intriguing the list includes obvious choices such as 'attack', 'Al Qaeda', 'terrorism' and 'dirty bomb' alongside dozens of seemingly innocent words like 'pork', 'cloud', 'team' and 'Mexico'.
Released under a freedom of information request, the information sheds new light on how government analysts are instructed to patrol the internet searching for domestic and external threats.
The words are included in the department's 2011 'Analyst's Desktop Binder' used by workers at their National Operations Center which instructs workers to identify 'media reports that reflect adversely on DHS and response activities'.
Department chiefs were forced to release the manual following a House hearing over documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit which revealed how analysts monitor social networks and media organisations for comments that 'reflect adversely' on the government.
However they insisted the practice was aimed not at policing the internet for disparaging remarks about the government and signs of general dissent, but to provide awareness of any potential threats.
The list has been posted online by the Electronic Privacy Information Center - a privacy watchdog group who filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act before suing to obtain the release of the documents.
In a letter to the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counter-terrorism and Intelligence, the centre described the choice of words as 'broad, vague and ambiguous'.

Threat detection: Released under a freedom of information request, the information sheds new light on how government analysts are instructed to patrol the internet searching for domestic and external threats
They point out that it includes 'vast amounts of First Amendment protected speech that is entirely unrelated to the Department of Homeland Security mission to protect the public against terrorism and disasters.'
A senior Homeland Security official told the Huffington Post that the manual 'is a starting point, not the endgame' in maintaining situational awareness of natural and man-made threats and denied that the government was monitoring signs of dissent.
However the agency admitted that the language used was vague and in need of updating.
Spokesman Matthew Chandler told website: 'To ensure clarity, as part of ... routine compliance review, DHS will review the language contained in all materials to clearly and accurately convey the parameters and intention of the program.'
